CRIT/TRIP is regularly represented by students and faculty at conferences such as the meetings organized by ATA (American Translators Association), ALTA (American Literary Translators Association), and ACLA/ICLA (American/International Comparative Literature Association). For information regarding our participation at these conferences, see the TRIP newsletter. CRIT/TRIP also organizes lectures and events that bear on translation.

Binghamton-Amherst Translation Studies Conference

The Binghamton-Amherst Annual Translation Studies Conference was begun in Spring of 2005 to further the productive exchange between the graduate students affiliated with Translation Studies at these two schools.

April 29-May 1, 2005
The first Binghamton-Amherst Conference was hosted by CRIT at Binghamton University . http://trip.binghamton.edu/Binghamherst.html

April 29-30, 2006
The Second Amherst-Binghamton Conference was held at the University of Amherst, Massachusetts. This year the conference was also open to students from the translation program of the University of Ottawa, Canada. http://www.umass.edu/translation/2006conference.html

This year the conference will return to Binghamton University 's campus, and is scheduled for April 27-29, 2007

 

Dean's Workshop Lecture Series Fall 2005 and Spring 2006

The office of the Dean of Harpur College awarded CRIT a grant for the 2005-2006 academic year to sponsor the lecture series "Translators Theorizing on Their Craft", which involved lectures by students and faculty, as well as several translation scholars from other universities.

Ben Van Wyke (TRIP): "Importing Uneasiness: Mercedes Cebrian's Short Stories in English."

Alexis Levitin (SUNY Plattsburgh): "Translating the Music of Eugenio de Andrade."
